About Us

Newport Family Practice has been a part of the local community since 1949.  Dr. Magill started in practice and was joined by Dr. James Orville Rumbaugh in the late 1950s.  They practiced for decades at the office’s first location on the corner of 4th and Market Streets in Newport.  Together, they provided the community with home visits, obstetrical and family care until Dr. Magill retired in 1985.

Drs Albert and Kathy Knouse joined Dr. Rumbaugh in 1995 and moved the practice to Red Hill in December of that year.  Subsequently, Dr. Michelle Brenizer and Dr. Michael Thieblemont brought in their unique talents to the practice in 1998 and 1999 respectively.

With the continued growth of our community and practice, we expanded into our present location across the parking lot on Red Hill in 2014.  Here we welcomed Lacie Sanderson in 2014 and Jillian Sterner in 2019 to our working family.

Our Providers

Dr. Albert B. Knouse, Jr. is a board-certified family practitioner.  He graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle with a BS in biology and then from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia with his MD. He then completed a three-year family practice residency in the US Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia where he was selected as chief resident in his third year and selected as the “outstanding graduate resident” of his class.

After residency, Dr. Knouse served as teaching faculty for four years at Fort Belvoir and was honored to receive two teaching awards.  He left the Army as a Major in 1995 to join Dr. Rumbaugh in Newport and is honored to carry on the tradition of employing and caring for the people of this community.

He is the grateful husband of “Dr. Kathy” and the proud father of their three children. For relaxation he enjoys exercising and working outdoors. Although still a work in progress, his greatest desire is to share the hope of Jesus with others.
